Crossfire

Went to the new meanwhile park last week, taking shots with the drawing boards boys again, some good stuff went down, including jeremy ollieing the meanwhile gap (possibly for the last time - barriers have been installed at each side of the gap - health and safety freaks)

The shot's now being used on the crossfire website as hype for the upcoming meanwhile jam this saturday - nice bit of exposure there!

It's been a quiet couple of weeks for me at the moment, shooting bits and pieces here and there,
but nothing major.
So instead, I thought i'd give you a heads up on what will be happening in the photographic diary soon-

1) Croydon's Alternative Fashion Event - much more interesting, wacky and wierd than regular fashion.

2) The drawing boards tour - Saffron Walden, Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds, and Milton Keynes.
A perfect opportunity to build the old skate portfolio.

New Ideas, Old Ideas

It's been a busy two weeks for me. Making ends meet with overtime at work,
finishing off the university assignments for the first year and the untimely death of my Auntie Gloria.
Everyone gets their share of good and bad times, but it's just different when it happens to you. It's more important, and it's basic human nature, you know? You'll always get that someone that seems to have all the bad luck in the world, but inside, you just feel... well, distant from it all. It's only when it happens to you that it becomes real. I mean death is totally incomprehensible. When you think about it, death, is just, well.. death. It's like trying to describe the colour blue. It's just blue. There isn't any other way. Same with Death. Death is just Death. Except it's a lot worse than blue. The sting doesn't ever go away, no matter how many times you experience it. It doesnt get easier.

On a much lighter note, I'm pretty pleased I finally managed to finish a personal project, "Boys will be Men", with three generations of my family in one picture, in an interesting way (you can click the link on the right hand side at the top to see it). I prefer this to a group photo as it draws your eyes to our eyes, and sort of makes a connection. "It's wierd" is the unanimous desicsion from almost everyone that's seen it, but i'm happy with it.

Did some more work for Drawing Boards on Friday, starting at a new spot in Elephant & Castle, then moving on to Tanner St, finishing up at the London Bridge skate plaza. It was all good, with a funny little sequence of jeremy ollieing a wire fence onto a drain on some grass - the mind boggles.

South London Press

Ahh, work experience. The staple job description of making tea and coffee, and going on biscuit runs has been blown apart by the South London Press for me. I feel as though i'm a veteran of the business, organising a busy schedule, and skeeting around south London at the speed of light. It's a shitload of fun, i'll tell you that.

Yeah, not everyone enjoys taking photos of biddies at a museum, or even some shoots like
"go out and take stock photos"
"what photos do you want?"
"erm... anything, really."

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but at least it gets the creative juices flowing.

There are the moments, though, when everything suddenly steps up a gear, and you get caught in the buzz, an amazing feeling that i would recommend to anyone who's about to pick up a camera.
For instance, last week i had to take a portrait of this guy in brixton, then while on the way there, stumbled across a stabbing scene in a butcher's in the market. I rushed the portrait (much to the bloke's dismay) and went into papparzi overdrive. it was mental. however, for my efforts, i was rewarded with a cosy front page spot for my picture. It doesn't get much better than that at this level.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go and make some tea.
